Volunteering

Chehaw is a community of animals, staff, and volunteers. Volunteers work all over the Park, Zoo, and beyond. Benefits of being a Chehaw volunteer include free admission for some positions, acquiring new skills, and having fun working with great animals, staff, and other volunteers! Choose a program!

Junior Zookeeper Volunteering at Chehaw Park

Chehaw also has a program for those younger than 18 years of age who wish to volunteer. Junior Zookeepers are youth volunteers (13-17 years old) who are interested in volunteering as camp counselors, exhibit hosts, and animal care volunteers. This program is especially great for teens who are not only interested in animals, but those who may be interested in a career in Education. Dues are $50 for one year. All interested applicants for the 2016 program will need to fill out the Junior Zookeeper application and return it by March 2. Junior Zookeepers will also participate in a short interview with a member of the Education Staff. Accepted applicants will be expected to attend these mandatory training dates, unless previously excused by Education staff:

  • Training for First Years May 13 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
  • Training for Second - Fifth years March 18 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
