BMX & RC Racing Track

BMX Racing Track / Mountain Bike at Chehaw Park in Albany, GA

If you are searching for a safe, family-oriented BMX racing track, you can find it at Chehaw. The Friends of Chehaw Conservation Society and the USA BMX worked together to build this racing site for motocross enthusiast. Chehaw's BMX track now features an adjacent pump track for those new to the sport to practice, or for experts to hone their skills. The public can ride anytime with a bike and helmet. If you have a USA BMX membership, you can participate in sanctioned races.

Helmets Required for Bicyclists.

The new RC Track at Chehaw is located next to the BMX track. It offers both an off road race track and a dirt oval track. Volunteer organization, Chehaw RC, originally built and currently maintains the track. The track is open to the public during Park hours and newcomers are encouraged to come and check out this exciting sport. Organized races are held throughout the month and guests travel from around the southeast to race. 

Wiregrass Express & African Veldt Ride

Wiregrass Express Train Rides at Chehaw Park in Albany, GA

The Wiregrass Express is a scenic tour of the Park that takes passengers on a 20-minute adventure through the native landscape and runs March through December. Tickets can be purchased at the Gift Shop for $3 children and $4 adults. Children under two ride for free. Train hours vary by season.

The African Veldt Ride is a unique trailer ride through a huge, 40 acre exhibit. Seven different species of animals roam the Veldt in natural herds. No Veldt ride is exactly the same! This ride is free with Zoo admission and runs on Saturdays and Sundays.

Please note, the train and Veldt do not run every day. Guests are advised call ahead to make sure the train and Veldt are running the day of your visit.

The train runs Saturday from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The African Veldt runs Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.


Disc Golf

Disc Golf at Chehaw Park in Albany, GA

Included in your Park admission is access to the Joshua W. Franklin Memorial Disc Golf Course. This 18 hole disc golf course, with a par 54, was opened in 2008 by friends and family of the Franklin and Griner families. The course has become a favorite among regional players. 

Disc Golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc or Frisbee. The trees, shrubs, and terrain changes located in and around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the golfer. Discs are available for sale at the Ticket Booth and Gift Shop.

Mountain Bike Trails

Mountain Bike Trails at Chehaw Park in Albany, GA

The sport of mountain biking, a practice quickly growing in south Georgia, has found a home for participants at Chehaw. In contrast to the dangerous high traffic ride of the open road, bikers will find that the trails at Chehaw are a very serene, safe, enjoyable, sometimes challenging, beautiful, and fun. Chehaw has over 10 miles of mountain bike / nature trails which are ever growing and evolving. Portions of the trail include optional technical features.

Pump track, restrooms, maps, and bike wash are located at the Trail Head. Shower facilities are available at the Chehaw campground within walking distance. The trail is designed with loops, one mile or less in length, so that guests can customize their ride by bypassing sections if they wish.
