At Chehaw we have two blue-and-yellow macaws, a mated pair, Zues and Jill.

Our blue-and-yellow macaws are dazzling ambassadors from the rainforests of Central and South America. With brilliant blue wings, a golden-yellow chest, and striking green accents on their head, these birds are impossible to miss! Beyond their beauty, they are highly intelligent and social creatures, capable of solving puzzles, mimicking sounds, and forming deep bonds with humans and fellow birds alike.

In the wild, blue-and-yellow macaws play a crucial role in maintaining the health of their forest habitats. By eating fruits and nuts and spreading seeds, they help grow new trees, acting as natural gardeners for the rainforest. Unfortunately, these birds are disappearing from the wild due to habitat loss, illegal pet trade, and deforestation. Their shrinking populations remind us how important it is to protect forests and wildlife for future generations.

Macaws are more than just a beautiful visitor; they are a teacher, helping guests of all ages understand the wonders of rainforest ecosystems, the intelligence of parrots, and the urgent need for conservation efforts worldwide.
