Meet Cupcake!

Savannah monitors are a powerful and fascinating lizard native to the grasslands and savannahs of Africa. With their strong legs, long tails, and sharp claws, these monitors are skilled hunters, feeding on insects, small mammals, and other prey in the wild.

Cupcake came to Chehaw as a surrendered pet with a reminder that large, intelligent reptiles require specific care and space to thrive. Now he has a safe and enriching home with us, where he helps teach visitors about reptile behavior, habitat needs, and responsible animal care.

Savannah monitors are important predators in their ecosystems, helping control populations of smaller animals and maintaining a healthy balance in the environment. At Chehaw, Cupcake serves as an ambassador for education and conservation, showing guests the impressive strength, intelligence, and adaptability of these incredible lizards.
