Meet Ruby!

The corn snake is a gentle and striking snake native to the forests, fields, and wetlands of the southeastern United States. Known for their calm temperament and beautiful patterns, corn snakes are excellent climbers and hunters, feeding on small mammals, birds, and eggs.

Our corn snake, Ruby, is albino, which makes her look unique, but also means she wouldn’t survive in the wild. Because her coloration makes her highly visible to predators, Ruby lives safely with us at Chehaw, where she serves as an ambassador for education and conservation.

Corn snakes play an important role in their ecosystems by controlling populations of rodents, helping maintain a healthy balance in the environment. At Chehaw, Ruby teaches visitors about snake adaptations, the challenges wild animals face, and the importance of providing safe homes for animals that cannot survive in the wild.
