Meet Mr. Prickles!

Our adorable four-toed hedgehog is a tiny bundle of curiosity and quills! These small nocturnal mammals are native to parts of Africa and are known for their keen sense of smell and ability to curl into a tight, protective ball when they feel threatened.

Our hedgehog has a special story, he came to Chehaw as an unwanted pet. Many people don’t realize that hedgehogs require very specific care, and when owners aren’t prepared, these little animals often need a safe new home. At Chehaw, he’s thriving in a habitat designed just for him and helps teach visitors about responsible pet ownership and the needs of exotic animals.

Four-toed hedgehogs play an important role in their natural habitats by controlling insects and other small invertebrates, helping keep ecosystems in balance.
